EU Extends Sanctions on “Coup Leaders” Blocking Sudan’s Political Transition- Measures Cover Ten Individuals and Eight Entities- Khartoum Highlight
European Union announced the extension of sanctions against those destabilizing Sudan and obstructing its political transition for another year, until 10 October 2026. The sanctions cover ten individuals and eight entities. They face EU-wide travel bans, asset freezes, and prohibitions on providing them funds or resources directly or indirectly. This decision was issued in a press release by the European Union, seen by Khartoum Highlight.
The statement said the step comes amid ongoing war . That has destroyed millions of civilian lives over the past two years. It blamed Sudanese Armed Forces, Rapid Support Forces, and their affiliated militias for the devastating conflict. European Union recalled adopting in October 2023 a framework for restrictive measures against actions undermining Sudan’s stability and transition. It noted successive sanctions packages followed in January, June, and December 2024, then in July 2025. These targeted individuals and entities linked to the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces.
The statement recalled that on 11 April 2025, the EU High Representative renewed the call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. He urged warring parties to negotiate in good faith for a sustainable peace that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
European Union confirmed it will continue, in coordination with the international community, to use its diplomatic tools, including sanctions. It said these measures aim to support a peaceful resolution of the conflict and launch a comprehensive Sudanese political process. Such a process, the EU stressed, must meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
