Kabashi: The army is determined to negotiate -Kabashi: we will meet with the “No to War” group.

Sources in Port Sudan’s de facto authority told Khartoum Highlight about the army’s new peace initiative. They confirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) plan to negotiate with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The goal, they said, is to end the war and achieve peace. The sources added that the army also seeks to meet the anti-war coalition.

This refers to the “Somoud” Alliance, known for its stance against the ongoing conflict. On Wednesday, the Egyptian Presidency spokesperson discussed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s meeting with General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. The talks focused on the importance of the Quartet Mechanism in resolving Sudan’s crisis.

Both leaders emphasized the need to stop the war and restore stability. They also expressed hope for results from the Quartet meeting in Washington this October. The meeting aims to produce real progress toward a ceasefire and peace. A well-informed source said General Shams Al-Din Kabashi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, met civilian groups in Port Sudan.

He told them the Sudanese Armed Forces intend to join peace negotiations. Kabashi said the army seeks an end to the war and lasting peace. He also confirmed plans to meet the civilian forces opposing the war. This includes the Somoud Alliance, which calls for a complete ceasefire. The alliance also demands a political process leading to civilian rule. It supports creating a unified, professional national army.
