Trump Extends State of Emergency: Sudan Poses Exceptional Threat- Khartoum Highlight

U.S. President Donald Trump has extended the national state of emergency on Sudan for another year. The decision followed an annual review stating that Sudan’s government policies and actions. And the situation in Sudan and Darfur  still pose an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to U.S. national security and foreign policy.

Since the outbreak of the April 15 war, which destroyed infrastructure and displaced or killed millions of Sudanese, Washington and Saudi Arabia launched a peace initiative. Based on that initiative, Jeddah Agreement was signed. Recently, United States, along with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt — known as the International Quartet — began drafting a new plan to push the warring parties back to negotiations.
