Court Lifts Asset Seizure on Bashir’s Wife – Port Sudan ruling overturns 2023 corruption judgment -Khartoum Highlight
In a new sign of the Islamist regime’s return, a Port Sudan court has lifted restrictions on assets owned by Wedad Babiker, wife of ousted president Omar al-Bashir. Criminal Court annulled a 2023 ruling by the Anti-Corruption Judgement that convicted her of illicit wealth. The earlier ruling had ordered the confiscation of residential and agricultural lands, houses, gold jewelry, gemstones, and bank accounts. Without disclosing sources of the wealth. Judge Al-Maamoun Al-Khawad Al-Sheikh Al-Aqad issued the Port Sudan judgment. The decision came under case number “2019/134” filed by the Public Prosecution for Unlawful and Suspicious Wealth.
