Gulf Support for Quartet Statement and Efforts to Stop War in Sudan – Khartoum Highlight – Agencies
Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed Al-Badiwi, welcomed the joint statement from the Quartet meeting. The meeting involved Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States regarding the conflict in Sudan. The Quartet set timelines to end the conflict and launch a civilian transition within nine months. It also called for an initial three-month humanitarian truce, paving the way for a permanent ceasefire. The statement emphasized removing extremist groups and the Muslim Brotherhood from determining Sudan’s future. The GCC Secretary-General praised the principles affirming Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, ceasefire, and humanitarian aid access. He valued the efforts of the four countries and confirmed the GCC’s full support for these initiatives. He also emphasized the council’s readiness to cooperate with partners to enhance peace and relieve Sudanese suffering.
