Khartoum Highlight- The Sudanese Professionals’ and Syndicates Coordination announced a severe decline in workers’ living conditions. The crisis is driven by rising prices and the sharp fall of the Sudanese pound. The group said current wages no longer cover daily expenses. Cost of living for a family of five has reached 1,652,000 Sudanese pounds. The minimum basic salary, however, remains at only 12,000 pounds since 2022.
Professionals’ coordination demanded that the de facto government and relevant authorities raise the minimum wage to 200,000 pounds. It also called for semi-annual reviews of salaries and allowances, immediate payment of arrears, and special professional allowances of at least 25percent for key sectors. The statement warned that if the crisis continues, Sudan’s civil service will collapse and qualified staff will be lost.
