JEM: Sanctions on Jibril Ibrahim Are “Foreign Conspiracy Against Sudan”- Khartoum Highlight

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) condemned U.S. sanctions on Jibril Ibrahim, Minister of the de facto authority in Port Sudan and movement leader. Spokesman Mohamed Zakaria said the move is part of a series of foreign conspiracies against Sudan and explicit support for a criminal militia. He added that such actions show U.S. policy contradicts principles of justice and human rights. The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on the Al-Baraa bin Malik militia and Jibril Ibrahim. They were accused of involvement in Sudan’s brutal war and ties to extremist states.

The Treasury said the sanctions aim to curb Islamist activities in Sudan and Iranian interference that has caused civilian suffering. Zakaria stressed unilateral sanctions are worthless. He called them unjust, lacking legal basis or objective grounds, inconsistent with justice or international law. He said Jibril Ibrahim leads a pioneering political project supported by Sudanese masses. It seeks stability, development, national unity, and preservation of Sudan’s sovereignty.
