The Veterans and War Victims Association welcomed the Quartet’s statement on Sudan’s war. They supported the Quartet’s call to remove both fighting parties and Islamist groups from civilian government. The association said the Quartet’s stance aligns with its own view on preserving Sudan’s unity and safety. It reiterated its rejection of the war since its outbreak in mid-April 2023.
The group backed all efforts to stop the war, including Jeddah I and II, Manama, IGAD, AU, and Geneva talks. It also aligned with retired officers’ bodies supporting the December Revolution and opposing this war. The association said it drafted a memo to both warring leaders urging an immediate halt to hostilities. It demanded handing power to civilians so professionals can focus on defending the nation and its territory. As veterans, they stressed from experience that a military solution is impossible for either side. They warned a military path would prolong war, causing more killings, displacement, and destruction. The association added prolonged conflict would devastate civilian and military infrastructure and critical services.
