WFP: “Catastrophic” Hunger Levels in Sudan – South Korea Contributes to Food Assistance- Khartoum Highlight

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that hundreds of thousands of people in Sudan are facing catastrophic levels of hunger. The agency announced a $7 million contribution from the Republic of Korea to support vulnerable communities in the country. WFP said the funds will be used to deliver critical food and nutrition assistance to families in hard-to-reach areas. This including Darfur, Kordofan, and Khartoum.

The support will be channeled through the joint project “Emergency Assistance Response for Conflict-Affected Families” between WFP and the Republic of Korea. WFP’s Country Director in Sudan, Eddie Rowe, expressed gratitude for the contribution. Rowe stressing that it will help save lives in areas where access is extremely limited. For his part, South Korea’s Ambassador to Sudan, Namgoong Hwan, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to addressing global humanitarian crises. He noting that this contribution strengthens the existing partnership with WFP and helps ease the suffering of conflict-affected Sudanese people.
