A Merowe court sentenced human rights and political activist Mutasem Mohy El-Din to 11 years for “insulting the army and cooperating with RSF.” Mutasem was arrested in January 2025, detained by military intelligence, and sentenced for opposing the war and criticizing current conditions. He had opened classrooms to help local students continue education and prepared them for national and state exams.

Military intelligence is actively targeting civilians supporting an end to war and members of the December Revolution against Islamist rule. A fact-finding mission report on Sudan confirmed both warring parties are committing retaliatory acts against civilians.
