Gen. Kamal Ismail: Officers Ready to Testify Islamists Sparked War – Khartoum Highlight

The head of the Sudanese National Alliance Party, retired Gen. Kamal Ismail, revealed alarming details about those who ignited Sudan’s war. On April 15, fierce fighting erupted between the army and Rapid Support Forces, killing and displacing millions of Sudanese civilians. The conflict, with its ongoing tragic consequences, created what international organizations classify as the world’s worst humanitarian disaster. Speaking on the program Road 18, Ismail said some officers involved early in the war are ready to testify. He stated these officers are prepared to confirm before courts that Islamists inside the army were responsible for starting the war. Ismail added that well-known Islamist officers within the army issued the first orders to attack Rapid Support positions. Their aim, he stressed, was to reignite conflict as a path to restore Islamist rule ended by the December Revolution.
