US Restricts Burhan’s Movement in New York – Khartoum Highlight

Sudanese delegation limited to 25-mile radius The US State Department confirmed travel restrictions for Sudan’s de facto authorities during the UN General Assembly. It said Foreign Missions Act regulations require General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his delegation to seek prior approval.

They must request clearance from the State Department’s Office of Foreign Missions before traveling outside a 25-mile radius. The limit is set from Columbus Circle, New York. It applies during the 80th General Assembly in September 2025. Additional geographic restrictions may also be imposed. The Office of Foreign Missions director has authority to set them. This year, Burhan sent Prime Minister Kamal Idris to represent Sudan instead. He did not attend the Assembly himself. Former Sovereign Council member Mohamed al-Faki revealed Burhan’s anger. Burhan reportedly complained about being confined to a small area. He told al-Faki he could not meet anyone or tour New York beyond the 25-mile limit.
