International Meeting Pushes for Direct Talks Between Sudanese Army and RSF. Growing pressure to end the world’s worst humanitarian crisis and halt devastating attacks on civilians – Khartoum Highlight
International pressure is mounting to stop Sudan’s war. To end what has become the world’s worst humanitarian and displacement crisis. And halt the systematic destruction of infrastructure and deadly targeting of civilians. Delegates urged direct negotiations between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Broad International Participation:
Building on the Sudan conferences in Paris (April 15, 2024) and London (April 15, 2025). Representatives of the African Union, European Union, and the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom met in New York. They were joined by ministers and envoys from Canada, Chad, Denmark, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, IGAD, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, the Arab League, Libya, Norway, Qatar, South Sudan, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, the UAE, the UN, and the United States to address Sudan’s crisis and coordinate efforts to de-escalate and protect civilians.
Humanitarian Catastrophe
The meeting underscored that Sudan faces the world’s gravest humanitarian and displacement crisis. With over two-thirds of the population — around 30 million people — in need of assistance and 24 million suffering acute food insecurity. Needs continue to grow. The ongoing conflict, participants said, has had a devastating impact on civilians, particularly women and children. After two and a half years of war, they stressed, the suffering is intolerable and poses a major threat to Sudan’s future and regional stability.
Call for Negotiations and Civilian Protection
The gathered nations urged the warring parties to resume direct negotiations. To reach a permanent ceasefire and expressed readiness to take further steps to support and enforce such an agreement.
They also voiced support for an accord to protect vital infrastructure. Under EU facilitation, and called on both sides to take all necessary measures to ensure civilian safety.
