Sudanese Doctors : No Proof on Chemical Pollution – Khartoum Highlight

The Preliminary Committee of the Sudanese Doctors’ Syndicate stated it lacks “sufficient scientific data and necessary resources to confirm or deny chemical contamination.” The committee described itself as the “legitimate and elected representative of Sudanese doctors.” It said the official Syndicate dissolved itself after the preliminary committee’s election. It stressed the preliminary body did not issue the recent statement claiming “Khartoum is uninhabitable due to chemical contamination.” Recently, Dr. Leila Hamd Al-Nil, Director of Emergency Response in Khartoum, died after respiratory complications.

Dr. Adeeba El-Sayed of the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors said Leila’s symptoms matched “exposure to chemical radiation.” USA imposed sanctions on Army Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Port Sudan authority over alleged chemical weapons use. Senior U.S. officials told The New York Times the Sudanese army used chemical weapons at least twice during the war. On Sunday, a statement circulated bearing the signature of the dissolved “legitimate Syndicate,” declaring Khartoum unsafe for residence due to contamination. Fact-checking platforms reported no verified evidence from the Syndicate’s official outlets confirming issuance of the statement after its self-dissolution.
