Sudanese Doctors : Khartoum Uninhabitable Due to Chemical Weapons– Khartoum Highlight
The “Sudanese Forensic Doctors Union” announced that Khartoum suffered severe contamination from chemical weapons used in the war. It warned that these areas are currently uninhabitable and pose a major threat to citizens’ lives. The union urged people not to return to Khartoum, citing extremely high death rates from deadly pollution-related diseases. It stressed that these illnesses are not cholera or skin bacteria, but directly caused by chemical weapons use. Recently, Dr. Leila Hamd Al-Neel, head of emergency response in Khartoum, died after severe respiratory symptoms. Dr. Adeeba Al-Sayed from the Sudanese Doctors Central Committee said Leila’s symptoms matched exposure to chemical radiation. The United States imposed sanctions on Army Commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Port Sudan authorities for alleged chemical use. Senior U.S. officials told the New York Times the Sudanese army used chemical weapons at least twice during the war.
