Shortest Friday Sermon in El Fasher: Imam Says, “I Am Hungry—Establish the Prayer”

Khartoum Highlight

The Imam of a mosque in the city of El Fasher delivered what is believed to be one of the shortest Friday sermons today, stating simply: “I cannot speak because of hunger, and you cannot listen because of hunger—establish the prayer,” according to the El Fasher Resistance Committees.

In a post on their official Facebook page, the committees reported that the price of a sack of millet has skyrocketed to 10 million Sudanese pounds. They warned that this figure reflects a suffocating blockade that is silently pushing impoverished families toward starvation and exceeds the ability of any household to secure daily food.

The committees called for immediate action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in El Fasher and urged authorities to open roads and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged city.

The devastating war that erupted on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has led to the killing and displacement of millions of Sudanese, triggering what has been described as the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe.
