Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan: Regional and International Outcry

Khartoum Highlight – The United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the African Union, and the United Nations expressed deep concern over Sudan’s worsening Humanitarian crisis. They warned that acute malnutrition and famine risks are rising, while aid delivery continues to face serious restrictions. The statement urged Sudan’s warring parties to protect civilians and guarantee humanitarian access without delay. It reminded them of obligations under international Humanitarian law and their commitments in the Jeddah Declaration.

Obstacles Blocking Aid Delivery

The group demanded the removal of bureaucratic barriers that obstruct humanitarian operations. They called for keeping main supply routes open for convoys and aid workers, including through humanitarian pauses when needed. They also stressed the need to allow aid workers to operate safely across Sudan without fear of retaliation, even in areas under rival control.

The statement further urged safe passage for civilians seeking assistance and services, and a sustainable UN presence nationwide, particularly in Darfur and the Kordofan regions where needs are most urgent.

Finally, it called for restoring telecommunications throughout Sudan and protecting vital civilian infrastructure, especially in energy, water, and health.
