Anti-Government Mining Referendum Protests in South Kordofan

Khartoum Highlight  The Anti-Cyanide Committee in Qadeer County announced its rejection of the executive director’s proposal.  To hold a referendum on the presence of Mining companies in the county. In a statement issued on Saturday, the committee called for escalating the struggle against these companies.

It announced a protest to be held on Monday at the Qadeer County headquarters. Many local residents have organized multiple demonstrations and protest vigils against the spread of cyanide. A substance used in mining that causes severe harm to both the environment and people in the area. The committee held the government responsible for ensuring the safety of people and the environment in the county.
