Severe Fuel Crisis in Khartoum – Trend Toward Price Hikes- Khartoum Highlight

Sudan’s capital Khartoum is facing a severe fuel crisis, with long queues of cars returning to fuel stations. Local sources told Khartoum Highlight that a gallon of gasoline reached 40,000 pounds on the black market after the shortage hit the state. Khartoum Highlight also learned of an intention within the de facto authorities in Khartoum to increase fuel prices. In recent weeks, the exchange rate has risen sharply, and the Sudanese pound has collapsed to record lows. Economist Abdel Azim El-Amoui told Khartoum Highlight that the pound has severely eroded against foreign currencies. He added that the pound depreciated by 420% over 27 months since the war began on April 15, 2023.
