SPA Reports Quartet Statement: Sudan’s Future Not Dictated by Warring Parties or Extremists Linked to Muslim Brotherhood – Khartoum Highlight – SPA

Saudi Arabia affirmed its commitment to the joint principles with the “International Quartet” to end the conflict in Sudan. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Quartet issued a statement.  It said: “At the invitation of the United States, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and the U.S. held intensive discussions on the conflict in Sudan.

They noted it has caused the world’s worst humanitarian crisis and poses serious risks to regional peace and security. The ministers pledged to end the conflict in Sudan.” First: Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity are essential for peace and stability. Second: There is no viable military solution to the conflict. Continuation causes unacceptable suffering and risks to peace and security. Third: All parties must facilitate rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access across Sudan by all necessary routes. Civilians must be protected in line with international humanitarian law and obligations under the Jeddah Declaration. Random air and ground attacks on civilian infrastructure must stop. Fourth: Sudan’s future governance will be decided by its people through an inclusive and transparent transitional process. It will not be controlled by any warring party.

Humanitarian truce

According to SPA, the ministers called for a three-month humanitarian truce. This will allow rapid aid access nationwide, leading to a permanent ceasefire. After that, a comprehensive transitional process should be launched and concluded within nine months. It must meet the aspirations of Sudanese people for an independent civilian-led government with broad legitimacy and accountability. The Quartet stressed: Sudan’s future cannot be dictated by violent extremist groups linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. Their destabilizing influence has fueled violence and unrest across the region.
