Tasis Meets Lamamra on Sudan Peace Prospects-Khartoum Highlight
UN Secretary-General’s envoy Ramtane Lamamra met Friday in Nairobi with Abdelaziz Adam Al-Hilu and Tasis leadership delegation. Tasis statement said the envoy requested the meeting to discuss opportunities to end wars and achieve just, comprehensive peace in Sudan. On Wednesday, Lamamra also met a delegation from the Somoud coalition in Nairobi. Somoud urged him to intensify UN efforts to stop the war and protect civilians across Sudan. They also called for prioritizing humanitarian aid delivery and launching an inclusive political process for peace and stability in Sudan. Somoud stressed separating the legitimacy contest between warring parties from the urgent task of ending the war. The coalition warned that granting legitimacy to any warring side prolongs the war and worsens civilian suffering. They added that legitimizing one side implies accepting a military solution, entrenching and legalizing war continuation in Sudan.
