Human Rights Council Calls for Ceasefire in Sudan – Khartoum Highlight
The United Nations Human Rights Council will vote this week on a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Sudan. The resolution demands an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and the creation of an independent international monitoring mechanism. It also calls for rebuilding infrastructure and launching a civilian-led political transition to end the conflict peacefully. According to the draft obtained by Khartoum Highlight, the April 15 war crimes require referral to the International Criminal Court. The resolution condemns grave violations committed against civilians and urges accountability for those responsible. It states that both warring parties committed serious breaches of international humanitarian law. These include shelling residential areas, destroying infrastructure, extrajudicial killings, and ethnically motivated attacks.
