The Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism in Port Sudan suspended Lina Yagoub, bureau chief of Al Hadath and Al Arabiya. He also revoked her press accreditation, citing “professionalism concerns and safeguarding national security and public interest. The ministry stated that Yagoub committed “serious and repeated professional violations” between December 24, 2024, and the decision date. Previous violations were not included in this decision, according to a statement by Port Sudan authorities. On Wednesday, Al Hadath aired a report alleging Port Sudan authorities sheltered ousted president Omar al-Bashir and several regime figures. The report said those fugitives, wanted by local and international justice, reside in a luxury resort near Merowe military base. It added that army officers provide them with hotel-level services, cooking meals and ensuring their comfort and protection.
Lawyer Moez Hadra told Al Hadath it is only natural to send Bashir and allies to prison for ongoing trials. He stressed that some charges legally prevent release on bail, especially with many secure prisons operating across Sudanese cities. Hadra further noted that the judiciary system continues to function throughout Sudan despite the ongoing war and political crisis.
