AU and IGAD Back Quartet Plan for Sudan Transition
AU and IGAD Back Quartet Plan for Sudan Transition – Khartoum Highlight – Agencies
The African Union and IGAD welcomed the Quartet statement on Sudan’s conflict issued by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and the US. Quartet outlined a nine-month civilian transition, a three-month humanitarian truce. And excluding extremists from Sudan’s political future. The AU and IGAD said, like the Quartet, they believe there is no military solution to the Sudanese crisis.
Both bodies stressed readiness to cooperate with the Quartet to end the war and restore constitutional, civilian-led rule in Sudan. They affirmed the Quartet’s stance aligns with the African Union and IGAD roadmap to achieve peace, unity, and inclusive political transition. They also welcomed calls for swift humanitarian access, civilian protection. And a truce implemented through the Jeddah process. They said this would be a first step toward a permanent ceasefire and a legitimate, accountable, inclusive transition within nine months.
