13 Million Sudanese Children Out of School

13 Million Sudanese Children Out of School -Khartoum Highlight – Agencies

Save the Children said 13 million out of 17 million school-age children in Sudan cannot attend school. The organization described this as one of the world’s worst education crises in its Thursday report. More than half of Sudan’s schools remain closed due to war, according to the organization. One in ten schools has been converted into a shelter for displaced people, worsening the education crisis.

Save the Children’s Sudan director Mohamed Abdel Latif warned against ignoring education during crises. He said prolonged conflict costs children vital learning years they can never regain. He warned millions will remain out of school, facing risks including displacement, armed recruitment, and sexual violence. The United Nations said infrastructure is devastated even in relatively calm areas. School and hospital closures, alongside power cuts, hinder children’s return to classrooms across Sudan.
