USA Fed Signals Possible Rate Cut, Warns of Job Market Risks
Khartoum Highlight – USA – Reuters: USA Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signaled Friday a possible rate cut in September. He stopped short of committing, noting rising risks to the job market while inflation pressures remain. Speaking at the Fed’s annual Jackson Hole conference in Wyoming, Powell said the labor market seems balanced. But he described it as a “strange balance,” driven by a slowdown in both labor supply and demand. “This unusual situation points to growing downside risks to employment. If realized, they could emerge quickly,” he warned. Powell added that tariffs could fuel price pressures and worsen inflation, a risk that must be managed.
