National Initiative to Establish Comprehensive Peace Inspired by Francis Deng’s Call – Khartoum Highlight
A Sudanese group launched a national peace initiative. It is coordinated by the Advocacy Group for Peace in Sudan (AGPS). The initiative was inspired by Dr. Francis Deng’s call for sustainable peace and national responsibility. It described the war as Sudan’s most dangerous turning point in modern history. The conflict destroyed society’s foundations, weakened state institutions, and spread violence across regions, cities, and villages. Foreign initiatives failed to stop bloodshed. This highlighted the urgent need for a national project with true Sudanese leadership. Sudan Peace Call affirms peace is essential. It is not optional but a condition for survival and progress. The vision promotes peace as a supreme value. It begins with local reconciliation and extends to political and international levels.
Principles of the Initiative
The initiative was announced on Sunday evening. It is based on inclusive citizenship without discrimination of religion, race, or gender. It draws from Sudanese wisdom and experiences. The initiative commits fully to principles of equality, justice, and tolerance. Dr. Francis Deng urged Sudanese to take responsibility for their nation’s future. His message inspired wide consultations. In July 2025, consultative meetings were held under AGPS. Sudanese intellectuals, activists, and civil leaders participated. These meetings assessed past failures and explored credible alternatives. The goal was civil legitimacy, national will, and effective long-term peace.
