Kenya’s government issued a new legal order under the Counter-Terrorism Act, Chapter 59B, targeting specific groups. The order declares the Muslim Brotherhood and Hizb ur-Tahrir as designated entities on Kenya’s official terrorist organizations list. Legal Notice No. 157, published in the legislative supplement of Kenya’s Gazette, outlines the Interior Minister’s authority under section 3(3). The decision takes immediate effect and remains valid until revoked either by the Interior Minister or through a court order. Interior and National Administration Minister Kipchumba Murkomen said the move strengthens Kenya’s fight against terrorism and violent extremism. Murkomen stressed Kenya will continue enforcing legal measures necessary to safeguard national security and maintain internal stability.
