UN Security Council Calls for Sudanese Political Solution

Civilian-Led Transition , Rejects creation of parallel authority, warns unilateral moves threaten peace and stability

Khartoum Highlight-UN Security Council –   The United Nations Security Council emphasized Sudan’s priority is resuming talks between parties to secure a permanent ceasefire. It stressed the need to create conditions for a political settlement involving Sudan’s political and social forces. The Council called for restoring an inclusive, credible political transition leading to a democratically elected national government. It said the transition must be civilian-led, fulfilling Sudanese aspirations for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous future.

Security Council members urged all conflict parties to protect civilians and meet their obligations under international law. They called for full implementation of Resolution 2736 (2024) and honoring commitments under the Jeddah Declaration.

The Council urged all sides to respect international humanitarian law and ensure accountability for serious violations. It rejected the announced creation of a parallel governing authority in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces. Members voiced deep concern about the implications of such moves for Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.

UN Security Council warned this step risks intensifying the ongoing conflict, fragmenting the country, and worsening its already dire humanitarian situation. According to a statement seen by Khartoum Highlight, any unilateral action undermining these principles threatens Sudan’s future. The Council stressed it also threatens peace and stability across the entire region.
